Automata are mechanical toys, small Kinetic Art sculptures. Automata might be seen as an amalgamation between engineering, cultural awareness and artistic expression and can be defined as ‘storytelling mechanical objects’. Automata have fascinated children over the ages and today there are museums just of automata. Due to the combination of narrative and mechanical parts, automata have several possibilities for use within education.
EU Erasmus+ project using Automata to introduce STEM ideas to young children
